Acrobatic Skills Training  with Jim Donak

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
          SPORTS are biased towards pushing one's limits and short term goals. HEALTH is biased towards healing and sustainability. FITNESS is the overlap of these polarities.
          Jim Donak (of the San Francisco Circus Center) specializes in bringing healthy approaches to sports training and athletic approaches to health practices. For one weekend, Jim will be bringing his cross-disciplinary expertise to Austin. Acrobatic Skills Training  weekend workshop is offered in 8 self-contained sessions. Each session is capped at 8-16  participants to ensure high-quality instruction and individual attention.  From those with limited physical abilities to elite athletes, as well as movement therapists and movement instructors, Jim offers something for everyone.
          Jim is committed to providing a nurturing environment, focusing on individual needs and encouraging a sense of exploration and discovery, for a results-oriented experience.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:
          Jim Donak’s fascination with the how the human body is built, and functions began at an early age. He has been studying anatomy and biomechanics for over 45 years. His studies have included Circus Arts, Tai Chi, Alexander Technique, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and a variety of manual healing arts.
          He has been teaching functional movement and circus arts since 1980.  And for the past 25 years has been an instructor at Circus Center San Francisco where he teaches trampoline, acrobatics and his popular Physical Limitation Elimination class.
          In addition, Jim maintains a private practice in Berkeley focusing on physical skill development, neuromusculoskeletal healing through the integration of Asian manual therapies, orthopedic and osteopathic bodywork and rehabilitation exercises. He specializes in bringing effective and sustainable approaches to athletic training and teaching related workshops and continuing education seminars to instructors of all movement disciplines and manual therapists.

IF A SESSION IS FULL: You will be refunded for any sessions which have reached capacity prior to your registration.

SESSION 1 ||   Intro to Headstands & Handstands
DESCRIPTION: New to inversions? Learn the basics of headstands and handstands.

SESSION 2 ||   Handstands: Balance
DESCRIPTION: Take your handstand away from the wall.
**PRE-REQS: 30sec handstand against a wall

SESSION 3 ||   Handstands: Intermediate/Advanced Lab
DESCRIPTION: For intermediate/advanced practitioners. This lab focuses on presses, one-arms, and requested topics.
**PRE-REQS: 15sec freestanding handstand. 60sec handstand against a wall; a 10secs one-arm handstand against a wall; hop up to handstand via tucked position.

SESSION 4 ||   Acro Prehab
DESCRIPTION: Learn how to keep your wrists, ankles, and shoulders happy. We will cover simple techniques to counter the patterns of overuse caused by a consistent acroyoga practice..

DESCRIPTION: This workshop will provide you with the understanding and tools to identify your range of motion goals and to customize your training to meet these goals.

DESCRIPTION: Physical Limitation Elimination (PLE) is designed for those who wish to increase functional range of motion as quickly as possible. In this challenging workshop, you will not only increase your range of motion, but also strengthen the structures that provide control and stability while in your maximum ranges. This is an excellent stand-alone workshop and is essential for those who want to excel in their acrobatic training. This workshop emphasizes injury-free techniques that deliver the most effective results.

This is an excellent stand-alone workshop and is essential for those who want to excel in their acrobatic training.
